Seaside Architecture

Postage Stamp : Seaside Architecture
Date of Issue : September 18, 2014
Description : This series highlights landmark structures found along the UK coastline, ranging from traditional Victorian piers to modern architectural shelters.

  • Southwold Lighthouse, 1889 : Located in Suffolk, this prominent white lighthouse stands directly in the middle of a residential area, making it one of the most recognizable coastal landmarks in England.
  • Bangor Pier : Formally known as the Garth Pier in Wales, it is one of the best-preserved Victorian piers in Britain. The stamp highlights one of its ornate kiosks.
  • Bexhill-on-Sea Shelter : This represents the modern side of the series. It features a contemporary, minimalist wooden shelter designed to provide beachgoers with a stylish view of the English Channel.
  • Blackpool Pleasure Beach : This stamp depicts the Casino building at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Built in the late 1930s, it is a prime example of Art Deco “Streamline Moderne” architecture.
